2001 F150 4x4 stock wheel / tire question
I have a 2000 F150 4x4 style side super cab that is all stock. I also have an 87 F150 4x4 (bought it brand new 20 years ago) that I am running BFG AT's on. I really like those tires, so I want to get another set for the 2001.
The BFG web page indicates that I need 8.5-11" wide rims for the LT305/65R17/E tires. Will I have an issue putting these tires on my stock 2001 F150? Will they safely fit on the rim? I don't mind trimming a little plastic if I absolutely must do that. Your experience and advice is appreciated!
What a great site! I will be here often!!

I'm not sure but i think those tires end up being somewhere around a 35"...i have 285/70/17 bfg all terrains on the same truck and have no rubbing issues at all...after a lot of talk at my local 4 wheel drive shop, i found out the ford rims for that year are very narrow, infact almost too narrow for the stock tires...this leads to a couple of issues
1) if you go past a 33 in tires size on the stock rim it is not going to wear properly because it will not sit right on the rim...however, it is not uncommon to put a 35 on a stock rim, you will have some rubbing issues and the tire will wear quicker than normal
2) If you ever do decide to change from the stock rim, your wheel is going to be widder and backspacing will come into play
3) if you want my personal opinion, go w/ a 285/70/r17, it will really fill out the wheel well nicely and will not rub and you will barely notice any loss in power...i'm not sure what engine you have in your truck i have the 5.4 and havent noticed much if any loss in power...if you got a 35 your truck is going to be noticably slower. also, you should make it to 45-50000 miles on the 285's i cant say the same for putting the 305's
