abs lights

I also have an 04 explorer but have not found any good forums for it, but this is a brake question, when im driving my abs light will come on for a while and go off, there is never a certain time, it just goes on and off everyonce in a while, it is an 04 explorer, 40000 miles bought it when it had 20000 miles, I havent chaged any brakes.

You need to to have the diagnostic test codes (DTCs) for the ABS system pulled in order to have a decent chance of figuring out the fault.

Scan tools that will do this are not cheap (and not at AutoZone and the like) and you probably won't get this done for free anywhere.

It's not an issue with brake wear.

You can perform a carewful examination of the front sensors and the harnesses since they are susceptible to road hazards.

One thing you could do is to make sure that the sensors in the front aren't just dirty. They can sometimes get all dirty and just need to be cleaned to work properly. Not positive on the best way to clean the sensor, but I've heard that this can be the problem with an intermittent light issue. Try just dousing the wheel well area with lots of water. The sensor is down behind the wheel and the rotor. Just a quick suggestion. May save you some $$. Also I'm assuminmg you have checked the brake fluid and that the level is ok?--DIY
