Smile Factory 17" and BFG's

I had a '98 XLT 4x4 and based on the group here went out and bought 285/70/16's for it . I love those tires, and they definately increased the visual appeal of the truck (I've always though Ford undersized their tires on almost everything ). Not only did they look good, they really worked well.

Now that I've replaced the '98 with an '00 Lariat 4x4 I'm again looking for tires, oh I'll get the BFG's again, but am just curious if anyone knows how much tires you can get under a stock Lariat 4x4 on the stock 5-spoke 17" rims. I was just going to go ahead and get the 285's again, and at 32" they increase the ride height by 2". Is this the largest I can go without lifts or other mods?

Thanks

Steve

285/70R17 is about a 33" tire and fits just fine.

You can squeeze 315/70-17 (35x12.50) BFG's on there, but it is a tight fit and you will have some minor rubbing on the frame at full steering lock. I'd stick with 33's (285/70-17).

I just put on a set of 315-70-17 on my 200f F-150 4x4 regular cab and long bed. I get a little noise when I make a left turn. Haven't figured out what it's hitting yet.
