Tire's and gearing ?'s

Hi I'm new to this forum and had a question on my stock gearing. I got 3.55's in my truck now and I am going to get some new Goodyear MT/R's but not sure on which size to get 265 or 285. Do you think my truck will pull the 285's ok and not be to doggy or downshift alot ? Buy the way the truck came with 255's and it has a 4.6 in it. thanks

Your truck will pull the 285's but it won't be a rocket ship by any means. I have 285's and 3.55 gears and am happy with the performance, but I have a 5.4.

I have 4.6 liter/5 speed, and had at one time 3.55 gears with a set of 285's and it wasn't that much different from stock...certainly not noticeable to me.

i've got a 4.6 2WD and put 285's on after i lifted it. i did notice a big difference from when i just had 255's on it, but mine is automatic, not 5 spd. I do have the 3.55's too and the thing that brought back to stock performance and some was the XCal 2 by troyer performance. if your not familiar with it i'm sure you will be after a while on these forums. other than the programming, people seem to always recommend 4.10's which maybe someday i might do. good luck

i don't think i'd put 285s on with only a 4.6, you get in the mud i think your going to have your hands full... i had a 99 ext cab 4x4 auto and the 265s made it work hard in the mud...
