20" Wheels on a '04 F-150 FX4 - Opinions?
All,
I am having a great deal of trouble finding 17" and/or 18" rims for my 2004 F150 FX4. The bolt pattern is new and Ford apparently changed the brake caliper at the last minute so all the cool 17" rims that were made for the truck wont work and are all back ordered while they are re-tooled.
My wife is trying to talk me into getting 20's instead of 17's. My argument to her is that this is a "truck" and not something to run up and down the strip looking good here in Vegas. At the same time, I would like it to look good and I need bigger tires, so why not get nicer rims...
We tow WaveRunners - so about 1200 lbs, but not big boats or anything. Seems like it is easier to find 20" rims than 17" rims and so far we have found decent tires to fit them looking online.
I have put the 3" leveling kit in the front so I can run up to 33" tires now. Is anyone running 20" rims on a 2004 F150 who can give me an opinion? The Discount Tire guy said "dont do it" since there wont be enough tire showing and my towing/weight ability will be reduced, but the Big O tire guy said "no problem, the Discount Tire guy is full of sh*t" so I am confused.
Want to hear opinions and fact if anyone is running them.
Thanks,
dave

Thanks for the tip. I checked out the 2004/2005 forum and it looks like quite a few over there are running 20's. I called Discount Tire and they even have the wheel I like in stock so I am heading over there in a couple of hours to get them ordered (in stock at Discount Tire means they can get the wheel and tire within two days I guess) so after waiting two months for 17" wheels and tires that never materialized, I should have these loaded up in a couple of days.
One downside is that the difference in price between the 17's and the 20's including the tires is about $600.00 more. Oh well, they should look sweet.
Thanks!
