Question ABS Light, Sensor fixes it?

My ABS light has been on for sometime now. When I took it to the local Ford dealership the guy told me that either the wires on the module were corroated and that would cost $300 to fix or the whole module was screwed and the whole thing needed replacing. I came on here and read about some sensor that goes on the differential that fixes the light problem? can someone please explain this sensor to me. how does it work? where exactly does it install and how do you install it ?? Please let me know, I dont want to have to shell out the money that I dont have to fix the ABS. I dont know if this is the problem because the guy at the dealership said that my ABS were now disengaged and do not work. please guys...i need some help.
