Question How to tell when RTS's are worn out?

So many people dog the stock RTS's on the 97-03 body style 4x4 ORP's but I have 70K on the originals w/ more to go. The traction in snow isn't what it was, but it still isn't bad.

Unlike most tires the 265/70/17 RTS's have triangular ***** molded onto ~ a 3/16" shoulder. Although it sounds like a simple question, how do I tell when they are worn out? Are they shot when the triangular part is worn to the shoulder or when the tire is worn down and the shoulder only has ~1/8" or so left? As it is I have ~1/16" of triangle on top of the shoulder. If I measure from the top of the triangle to the lowest part of the tire, I still have ~1/4".

When you have worn down to the tread bar, then its time to replace them.

Is the tread bar what I'm refering to as the "sholder" that the triangular ***** protrude from?

Thanks!

They are the little bars between the tread of the tire. They are usually near the center of the tread.
