17 inch rims...can you drill out the 12mm...

I have access to a set of factory 17 inch chrome steel rims. The are the older style that accepts the 12mm wheel studs. Is it safe to drill the openings a little larger to accept the newer 14mm wheel studs?

Thanks,

For snow wheels on my 04 with 14 studs, I use wheels from 97 that were originally on 12 studs. You have align them a bit better to get them on but they work just fine.
(you don't have to drill them out)
