reverse 4.6 swap

ive read how u swap the pi motors into npis. can u reverse it and what does it take . i have a 97 f150 4x4 ive had for years and years. vin 6. got a sweet deal in a brand new reman from ford with less than 5000 miles. was out of a vic. i drilled and tapped the knock sensor as well as the cylinder head temperature sensor. removed all the precats and true dueled exhaust. upgrade to cold air intake. runs like a champ for two years now. but the ol truck is wore and rusty much morre motor than truck.. any way got a 2001 5 speed 4.6 truck thats immaculate with a 140k and a blown engine from a friend can i use my engine from my 97.. thanks in advance

So it was originally a PI, currently configured as non PI, and you want to go back to PI?

Am I missing something here?

The 2001 Vic engine is PI, as is the blown one in the 2001 truck - same engine. Should be a direct swap, replace the flexplate on the Vic engine with the flywheel off your blown engine - as long as they have the same bolt pattern. If not, you are going to have to chase a compatible flywheel.

no its a npi. it came out of an early vic. hence not having sensors. i think the only option is to swap the top end off the pi onto mine right? i think its actually a 92 block and was in a 96 crown vic. i have the orginal vin 6 motor out of my truck would it be better to just rebuild the bottom end and swap in to the 01? i really dont want to dissassemble my engine

Sorry - don't know why I thought it was a 2001 Vic engine.

Intake and exhaust manifolds have to stay with the heads. PI manifolds, PI heads - NPI manifolds, NPI heads.

Essentially you're doing a PI swap, except you already have everything you need on the 2001.

I'd justice follow along a PI swap thread and make any changes you need.

IIRC PI heads will bump your compression slightly, so you may end up needing a tune for it?
