Engine Swap 2V 4.6 to a 3V 4.6 or 5.4
Alright pretty new to swapping out to a different engine so it's not as simple as the plug and play of a replacement.
1998 F150 XLT 4X4
4.6L Windsor engine
M5OD-R2 tranny
I want to upgrade to a 3V engine for future upgrades (turbos and such)
Any recommendation for simplicity?
I have no idea on what would be most compatible as far as ECU and harness changes

First of all, the M5OD-R2 can't handle more power than a 4.6 PI 2 valve engine. That's not much of an improvement over what you have now. A swap to a 5.4 2 valve is relatively straightforward, our Articles forum has a thread with the details. Note that JMC did that swap and put a supercharger on it, and he's now on I think his 7th transmission.
Trust me, you don't want a 3 valve. The variable cam timing system can be a real headache.
