Help with motor compatibility!
I just bought a 1997 4x4 F150 lariat 5 spd manuel with 65.000 miles on it. It has a bad bearing knock. I cut the oil filter open and it had a bunch of metal shavings in it. The trucks in great shape otherwise. I need to change the motor and was wondering if it was worth the hassle of putting a 5.4 in it? It has a 4.6 Windsor in it now. If I stick with a 4.6, should I replace it with a truck or expedition motor or can I put a mustang, crown Vic,etc motor in it? Do I have to stick with a Windsor.
Thanks Scott

I'd find a Romeo (Vin W) and swap it in. They're more common. While you're at it, look for the later version with the performance improved heads and intake. A 2001-2003 (2004 Heritage) should be a direct swap with some performance improvement. The main difference is you won't be able to reuse your OE flywheel since the Windsor engine has a different bolt pattern on the crank.
