Spark Plug check

Just wondering how easy it is to change out or check the spark plugs on an 05 5.4L? Heard horror stories of plugs blowing through the threads so I though that I'd check mine out...Thanks

Yours won't blow them out, they will just not come out in one piece. That's the horror story you should focus on.

Some people have them break off while replacing them. Mine didn't do that.

just crack the plugs 1/8th turn, soak with rust pennetrant. let sit for 10min. remove slowly by hand. just follow the tsb. mine came out at 84000 miles . it sounds terrible as they come out. just put some anti seize on the plug. do not put any on the cone shaped taper on the plug. that is where the plug seals to the head. you should never put anything on the tapered cone.

Hi.

???

Here's what the TSB recommends for anti-sieze usage (c&p from the TSB):

"NOTE: ONCE THE SPARK PLUGS HAVE ALL BEEN REMOVED, NEW PLUGS SHOULD BE INSTALLED USING A FILM COATING OF MOTORCRAFT HIGH TEMPERATURE NICKEL ANTI-SEIZE LUBRICANT (XL-2) ON THE GROUND ELECTRODE SHIELD OF THE NEW SPARK PLUG (FIGURE 7). DO NOT COAT THE ELECTRODE STRAP OR THE PLUG WILL MISFIRE. THE NEW PLUGS SHOULD BE INSTALLED WITH NO LUBRICANT ON THE THREADS AND TORQUED TO SPECIFICATION, 25 LB-FT (34 N-m)."
