Is the harmonic balancer a 2 piece? When I put it on I used a large socket and tapped it in with a hammer. Now it is futher away from the engine and the belt jumps towards the engine and shreads off of the balancer's edge.

Do I have to replace the harmonic balancer? And what do I use to install it? Or can i buy a belt with less ribs? I think the orig. belt has eight, maybe go to a 6-7 rib belt.

you should NEVER hammer pulley on. its probably on crooked.it doesnt take much for the belt to slip.if it worked before with that belt it will work again. trust me hammered a pulley on my old caprice. didnt get 1/4 mile before belt shredded. buy the install tool.
