Four.
It is extraordinarily unlikely you need all of them.
Perhaps you'd like to do some diagnostic work first to see if you even need any of them.
Let us know what the symptoms are and someone with experience will guide you to keep you from wasting money on unneeded parts and work.

still got the originals in your '97 ??
If your on the originals, feel free to replace the front two....I'm SURE they need it by now.
Replacing the front o2's and cleaning the MAF gave me better gas milage, and a smoother running truck.

Unless the sensors are REALLY, REALLY bad, it takes a lot of miles to garner fuel savings when replacing these sensors.
Unless indicated as faulty, it usually is not worth it financially to replace the upstream sensors.
Cleaning the MAF, OTOH, is a cheap preventative measure that can yield large returns.

the only thing i notice is that my truck don't run a smooth as i would like it. slight spuddering at certain speeds or when i hit the gas. sometimes i have a slight shake while idling. i have recently cleaned my MAF sensor, changed spark plug wires, changed spark plugs, and just purchased some new ignition coils. it's better but i have a couple friends who's trucks run smoother. the two o2 sensors to change would be the ones before or after the cat?
