Fanbelt noise driving me crazy!

My 97 F150 4x4 with the 4.6 has developed a fanbelt related squeek that is getting louder and driving me up the wall.

I changed the fanbelt a year or so ago.

Two months ago I changed the idler pulley. It got better for a week.

A month ago, I changed the tensioner and pulley. It quieted down for a couple days.

I have loosened the belt. I cannot feel any abnormal looseness in the ps pump, alt, ac clutch, wp, or idlers. Ac on or off makes no difference.

With the belt off, the alt is smooth, the ac clutch seems smooth, and the ps pump turns smoothly, and the wp and fan seem tight and smooth.

Spraying it with water quiets it for a moment.

I have doused the new tensioner with WD40.

Spraying a ton of belt dressing seemed to make it quiet for a couple minutes.

Any suggestions? Another new fanbelt?

Thanks.

well the belt dressing deal made a mess....
get a new belt

get some carb cleaner and a rag and clean ALL the pulleys to get that crap off before installing the new belt

belt dressing is the worst thing anyone can do

it works at first but in the long run....your addicted

if everything spins freely there is no reason for all the squealing

unless something else was changed without the correct grooves in the pulleys somewhere down the line....

...zap!

Thanks.

Yes the belt dressing made a mess. I tried it because I had some. It acutally made the noise louder.

New fanbelt today.

I don't believe it, but a new fanbelt fixed it.

The old one was less than a year old.

I love quiet!
