Latest 4.2 which will swap into a 2000 F150?
Assuming I switch over the external parts and intake from my hydrolocked 2000 engine, what is the newest 4.2 I can use?
The online interchange info at salvage yard sites I checked shows nothing later than 2000.
While I'm at it I'll replace the lower intake gaskets to cover my a$$. Is there a "best part" for the lower intake manifold?
There are many posts on the subject in various forums so I'm seeking the most current information.
If anything on a later 4.2 needs minor mods to work I have machine shop access.
Thanks in advance!

I don't see why you can't use any 4.2 up till the end (2008) as long as you have good parts to swap over.
I think the interchange is hitting on manifold and fuel system differences - it went to a plastic intake, and in 05 it went to an electronic throttle and a FPDM instead of a return type fuel system with regulator on the rail. If you get a later one with plastic intake, replace the plenum gaskets and isolator bolts.
