02 F150 4.2 but acts like a 5.7 at a stop

Just like the title say this strong six cylinder acts likes its at the drag strip ready to go at the starting line. I recently changed the battery on it because when it surged the dash lights would go dim plus i was having a hard time starting it in the morning.

After changing the battery it was fin until i had to stop and the surge came back and was stronger than ever.

WHAT I MEAN BY SURGE IS I CAN HAVE MY FOOT ON THE BREAK BUT THE TRUCK STILL WANTS TO GO..KIND OF LIKE I AM TRYING TO POWER BREAM BUT IM STOMPPING ON THE PEDAL IN 2 SECOND INTERVALS.

THINGS THAT HAVE BEEN CHANGED: MAF, AIR FILTER, BATTERY

Any suggestions or ideas on how to fix this will be great...we have our eye on newer model ford so i dont really want to sell this to someone thing they got jipped..thanks

there is a vacuum leak somewhere after the MAF. most likely an intake gasket.

spray carb cleaner around the intake setup. if the motor revves thats where the leak is.

If it's not tripping the CEL and there are no OBD2 codes, it may just be a dirty/defective IAC. Major vacuum leaks will usually trip the CEL and throw lean codes.
