It depends on your current setup, which you describe. If you have currently have 255/70/16 tire with a 3.55 rear end, then going to 35" tire will give you an effect gear ratio of approx 3.00. That's probably too tall for anyone's liking. If you currently have a 3.08 rear end, then your effective gear ratio would become approximately 2.60. I think most people on this board will tell you that you should go with 4.10 rear end.

I have 35's on a V6. I also have the 3.55 rear end. It moves ok, Maybe a little slow out the hole but that should get better once I put the 4.56's in the rear end.

Hey mtucker, how exactly do you do the math for configuring the gear ratio that you need if you switch to a new tire size? Is there a formula?

You take the ratio of the old and new tire size (height) and multiply that by the gear ratio. That will give you an effective gear ratio. For example, the 255/70/16 tire is approx. 30 inches tall. The ratio of this to a 35 inch tire is .86. Multiply that with a rear end gear ratio of 3.55 and you get an effective gear ratio of 3.04.

A good rule of thumb is: for every inch you gain in tire height, subtract .10 from you gear ratio. Using the previous example, the effective would be 3.05. Pretty close!
