'06 F150 4x4 high light on, no engage

'06 F150 4x4 high light on, no engage
Need wisdom of fellow members:
4x4 high light on dash comes on. low light does not. When i switch to 4x4 high OR low i can hear the shift motor click. However, no front wheel movement. There is no grinding noise.
High light comes on, no grinding noise, no front wheel action. what to check? Also, why does 4x4 low light not come on but i hear the shift motor click just like i do when i select high? All help much appreciated.
