Sloppy Shifter

Just changed motor and transmission in 1984 Ford. Shifter is really sloppy-will go in gear but sloppy. Suggestions?

You don't know if it's an automatic or a manual? Come on, you gotta help us so we can help you. If it's an automatic, is it a column shift and is it the same transmission that was in it (probably a C6)? If it's a manual, is it the same transmission that came out? It could be a T18 or T19, the difference is the T18 has a non-synchro 1st, the T19 is synchro 1st. I don't think the ZF was around till 87, but that's a 5 speed with 5th being OD.
