Hey guys, just had a question that has been bugging me for a while. I have a 98 5 speed and 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gear work great but 4th and 5th have been giving me a little trouble. What happens is that whenever i'm in 4th or 5th gear and I put it under hard acceleration, sometimes to the floor, I get barely any response or very sluggish acceleration, and I hear a rattling sound coming from underneath the truck when I get past a certain point on the gas pedal. I have no idea what it could be. If anyone has any idea what it could be that would be great, thanks!

 

Detonation? If you have to put it to the floor in 4th or 5th gear, you should downshift unless you're traveling at speeds not legal in any state I know of.

 

What speed and what revs are you turning when this happens?
