1999 F150 - transmission noise

Hello,

the transmission on my F150 has been making noise. When the outside temperature is roughly 70 degrees or lower it makes an awful whining noise. In the warmer months the noise is almost completed eliminated.

Now I pull a trailer in the spring, summer and fall for a lawn service. Could it have something to do with the weight I am pulling? Maybe the absense of pulling weight allows the noise to return in the winter. No idea.

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Why do you believe it's coming from the transmission? Have you ruled out the differential(s) or wheel bearings, for example?
