How much transmission fluid for 2005 expedition?

Hey guys just dropped the pan on my 2005 expedition and changed the fluid in the pan only. How much should go back in? I only got about 5qts out. Also I believe the filter has been disconnected and sitting in the pan, what are the ods that is true and would issues could it possibly cause.

Thanks!

John

Pan holds 5 quarts, a complete exchange is about 14 quarts.

If the filter is sitting in the pan, the vehicle won't move in gear and you could burn out the pump.

make sure to remove the filter o-ring from the valve body before you insert new filter.

I usually refill with 4qts and top off as required.

^^^^^What he said.^^^^^^
I add 4 qts. and the fluid is just inside the cross hatched area of the dipstick, where it's supposed to be. If it makes you sleep better at night buy a 5th qt. and add 1/2 to bring it all the way to full. I sleep just fine at night with 4 qts.
