3.55 or 3.73 w/ 6.2l???

I am about to order a 2014 F-150 FX4 w/6.2l and am debating on which gearing to order. I have a 2007 F-150 FX4 w/5.4 and 3.55 right now and feel it is a bit sluggish since I did the leveling kit and tire upgrade. I don't want to get the same feel from the 2014 after it gets a leveling kit and bigger tires. I may tow a bass boat from time to time as well. Also I only put on about 5000 miles a year and am not super worried about mpg loss, I figure its gonna be 13-15 no matter what. The dealer is pushing the 3.55 but I am feeling 3.73 is the way to go. I noticed the Raptor has the 6.2l w/4.10 gears.

Anyone have input on what they found with the 3.55 vs. 3.73? And anyone have advice/experience with the 6.2l??

Thanks.

You're only talking a 5% difference. If you are going to get bigger tires, may as well go with 3.73.

Howdy!

Depends. What size tahr ere ye a-lookin' ta roll? Pretty much any "upsized" tire will be E rated. So added weight is a concern as well.

You shouldn't notice as much "sluggishness" with the new truck as you did with your '07. I had an '05 5.4 with the 3.73, and I noticed quite a difference when I upsized. However, the performance/fuel economy in my '12 with the 5.0 and 3.55 didn't change much at all when I upsized. The added hp and the 6 speed transmissions in the new trucks really helps with the "oomf".

Having said that, and if I keep this truck for a while, I'll be regearing soon. I'm running a 33" tire now, and I don't plan to change that. So if I keep the truck, she'll be getting 4.10s all around. For 35" tires, I'd recommend 4.56.

Just my .02.

Thanks for the info. I am thinking 33" tires max for me and yes they were E rated. I think the 3.73 is the way to go, Thanks again. The 4.10 is not a factory option in the FX4 only 3.55 or 3.73. hows the mpg in that 5.0l truck with the upgrades??

Thanks

Hi, buckeye! I lost maybe a half a mpg around town, and I can't really tell any difference on the highway. Getting about 15.5 and 19 respectively.

Thanks!

Appreciate the info, trying to sell my 07 then the order for the 14 will be sent in. Super excited to see the new truck. 6.2l with 3.73 is what I have decided on. Again thanks for the info.
