Do I need a new tranny?

All of a sudden my 04 F150 5.4 takes forever to engage in drive. Once it's warmed up it seems fine. I checked the fluid while warm and running, and it was a 1/2 qt low. (added some) Seems fine after that. My wife lets it run for 20 minutes this morning and went to take off...Same thing. WTF!

Do I need a tranny or is it maybe, just maybe a sensor? It didn't even show signs of weakness? Fine one day, gone the next?

Any suggestions?

have you ever had the transmission flushed out? if not, take it in, have it flushed, and see if that helps any.

60k is when you're supposed to flush the tranny.
