Question Transmission Temp Gauge

Has anyone installed one ? I need to install one and was wondering if it was difficult. The rv shop want 200.00 including the gauge to do it.

Any help is appreciated

And is there any reason to have one on a manual tranny? I've not heard anyone talk about such a thing. Does the trans lube heat up under a load like towing for example?

do a search for temp gauge in tranny forum. Neal the speed freak has posted much good info on the subject, although I used electrical gauges instead of mech. I liked the scale better on the elect. gauges. and the way I install things I probably would have screwed up the capilary tubes.

I've got the E40D/4R100 in my 97 Expedition. There are a lot of different opinions on where to place the sender. I installed the sender in a pressure port on the driver's side just above the harness plug. I believe it just had a 3/8" pipe plug in it from the factory. No need to drain the fluid. Jack up the driver's side and unscrew the plug. A small amount of fluid may come out. Screw in the sender with a small amount of thread sealer and run the wire up along the floorboard and into an existing hole in the firewall. I put heat resistant wrap on my wire due to the close proximity of the exhaust pipe. Very easy to wire. I used an Autometer gauge and the instructions for wiring are very clear and straightforward.
