Cool Towning 5th Wheel

We just bought a 5th wheel camper, and trying to find some input
from any other f150 drivers. The camper is 2002 Jayco 253D weigh around 5400lbs.
My truck is a 1999 f150 4x4 xlt with 5.4L,and 22,000 miles
and not ready to move up to a F250.

We have a 24 foot Mallard 5th wheel that we pull with our 2WD 97 F150 4.6L V8. The GVW on the trailer is 6300 lbs. The truck does fine. We added a transmission cooler and always turn OD off when pulling.

official22yrs;
I tow a 4000 lb. trailer with my 4.2L 98 F150. It pulls it fine but I found the suspension to be a bit too soft even though I wasn't overloading it. I looked at "helper" springs from Hellwig and others as well as air bags. Both of these options were too expensive for what they were, at around $400.00 (Can). I went to a spring shop and had an extra leaf put into the springs. This was a huge improvement at less than half the cost of the other options. Just thought I would pass that along if you are finding your suspension too soft. GlennMc.

Do you have the factory tow package? If so no worries!

If you don't get some Rancho 9000's and an external tranny cooler and you will do just fine!

Good luck and take your time-
