Unhappy Something Has Disconnected, and It Looks Expensive. [PIC]

1994 Ford F-150 5.0L V8 Longbed. That's the rear right tire. The left tire has that white rod thing attached to something, this one has come off. I didn't want to touch it in fear of totally destroying something, but can anyone diagnose what's up and perhaps how I did this?

The car/suspension operates fine, but I figure that's something important.

Thanks,
Nathan

Looks like your shock came loose/broke from the lower bracket. If you have basic hand tools, you can replace them yourself. You need to replace them or have them replaced.

Negative on the driving part. You will need to park it till you get a set of shocks. Some may say otherwise, but your shocks help smooth out the road. The truck will not handle worth anything! Just think of it as a good time to upgrade!

i'm curious as to how it came apart. did the lower mounting bolt come loose? did the shock itself break? did the mount (the part on the axle that the shock bolts into) break? if the mount itself broke, its going to be more difficult than just bolting in a new shock. otherwise, as the posts above me said, some new shocks (replace both at the same time to keep proper handling) and a new mounting bolt (if the old one is missing) and you'll be back on the road.
