Thanks for posting these pics. I never work on a truck or car for that matter. Your step by step and pics made it so easy even for a mechanically challenged guy like me both sides in 1 1/2. Best web site I never found. Thanks to all . Now how about the same tips for brake pads!?!?!?!?!?!

Prices for sway-bar End Link

The price of these vary so much. The Ford dealership is so far out of sync that I am really surprised they can sell them with a straight face. I guess you pay extra for an oem item.

These are the prices to do one side of your truck.

Ford Dealership:
Nut - Hex = $7.70
Stud = $27.08
Link = $23.69
TOTAL = 58.47

Auto Zone = $10.00

Ebay = $10.00 (but shipping brought it to about 20.00)

Thanks for the pics! Both mine busted on my 2003 FX4 Lariat out at the lake camping, being mechanically challenged had no idea what it was or if I could even drive the truck back into the city. God Bless F150Online!

changed mine about 2 months ago. been letting it go for lack of ambition. truck had started to wander around the road. the links seemed to firm up the steering and eliminated the wander. istarted to worry about the tie rods but the links tightened up everything.

My sway bar end links broke like the picture above and I'm having trouble getting the bottom nut off, should I just try to pound the bolt from the top? Or break off all the plastic and rubber bushings?? Oh and by the way City Ford here in Edmonton, AB, Canada called me back said the parts would cost $100+ and 1hr of labor wow, just bought my parts for less than $20...

Edit: 2 1/2hrs later....so, using a hammer, a screwdriver, and a carpenters chisel I managed to chisel the plastic and rubber away and the bolts basically fell out, that took about hour and a half, installing the new ones was a piece of cake even for this mechanically challenged person, just hope I tightened them up enough...

Sway bar link question

1. Does the truck need to be jacked up or can it be on the ground?
2. Should the bolt head be on the bottom or top?

Thanks

1. I replaced mine on the ground.

2. I put the bolt head on top, nut on bottom...

Seems to be holding up fine....cheers

did mine the same way. mainly too lazy to jack it up. and putting the nut on the bottom mad it easier to reach. may need a short extention on a rachet to do it easier.

so obviously you need to lift the front and take the tires off, or can you leave the tires on and get to the end links?

I was changing my oil this weekend and noticed one sway bar link was broken, exactly like OP's picture.

Got a pair of MOOG end links with the blue poly bushings for $25. Removing the rusty old ones took 45min, install new ones took 20min. Guy at the auto parts store says he sells a LOT of these repair kits.

Truck had a rattle in the front end - I was afraid it was another bad ball joint but the rattle was cured with new end links.

I installed them with the threaded end down. Now contemplating changing them to threads-up.
