PATS Reverse--Save $--Dont tow!!!
For those of you who read my post a few days ago--i fixed the problem..if not heres a recap--I disconnected my battery with the key in the ignition....So NONE of my keys would work. Had to resort to the tow truck to reset my PATS...However--Roadside gave me this little "raindance" to do and it works as a quick fix...Here goes.....
1. Get in truck and MANUALLY lock both doors--dont use the power lock button.
2. Get out using the driver door and MANUALLY lock the door with the key.
3. Wait 15 mins--drink beer
4. MANUALLY with key..unlock driver door.
5. Run around truck 3 times
6. Get in & lock doors with REMOTE---Then UNLOCK with remote
7. Put key in ignition--turn to "ON" position and wait 30 seconds
8. Say prayer and turn key
DO all of these (maybe leave out step #5--but you dont have to)
exactly like this and the truck should start---and save you some $$$ in the service shop!
Hope this helps all the stupid people out there--worked for me!

They need to put stuff like that in the owner's manual. And also a warning about not disconnecting the battery with the key in the ignition. I would have never thought that would/could cause a problem. I've even done that in my 96 Cobra (it has PATS also) and didn't have any problems, wonder why Ford changed it?

I promise you none of that locking, unlocking is necessary. All you have to do is take the keys out and wait for about 30 minutes without trying to start it. I see it all the time, people just dont leave it alone long enough for it to start working again, thats part of the antitheft, the more you mess with it, the longer you have to wait even with a good key.
It works!
About Step 5, you could do more then three times around if you want.
I actually fell down on the second lap and skinned my knee pretty bad. It took me awhile to get going again and that third lap was much slower. In the amount of time it took me to complete step 5 I could have done five or even six laps.
Anyway, just wanted to point out that running around the truck three times was a minimum number that can be adjusted to your own taste.
(Just don't do so many that you get dizzy)

Anyone know the answer for my question in the above post?
< Does this work to program a new key or just if you screw up your existing one(s)? >
The reason I ask is that I've only got one key and need a second one made. I would rather not have to pay the extra cost to get my dealer to program the new key (above the cost of the new key).

This might be a dumb question, but can you repeat step 3 instead of doing step 5? And, if you have to do step 5 can you drink beer while running around the truck? Do you run clockwise or counter clockwise? I would prefer to extend step 3 and drink beer for 30 minutes.

Mine didn't work... is it cause I cheated and crawled under the truck on the third lap. It would have been easier just to go on around... my head still hurts where I hit it on the t-case.
World Diagnostic System. Its the new "Scan tool" your dealership has. The portable touch-screen piece of crap that is slower than a 486 processor ! LOL. They can hook it up and send all the info straight to Ford via modem.
