Question Mickey Thompson Drag E.T.`s

I have a few question to ask my fellow L owners. After finding out that M.T. has teporarily stopped production of their 26x10 R16 Drag slick. I was wondering if anyone knows the reason for stopping prodution? Could it be that the demand was not high enough?I I believethat HIRISK was running these tires, but I`m not sure if anyone else has. After many phonecalls to various speed shops I was able to track down a pair at Wells Performance in Florida. These slicks do recommend the use of tubes, But I have been unable to find any. Sumit racing, and Jeg`s performance has no tube for a 16" wheel. Does anybody happen to know if there is a tube that would work?. I was told that I could run the slicks without tubes, but I know from experience that will loose air pressure without them.Any input?

Thank you
Spiro

Try Harlow Tire at 1-800-919-RACE or 1-734-722-0052. They are a Mickey Thompson dealer and supply tires to a lot of the big time drag racers. Hope this will help.

Totally let us know what you come up with. My dealership just cut a check for my wheels and those tires *I'm pretty sure it was those* and I am goona be a mad Angel if we have to go back to the drawing board. Racing season is too close for that.

Hey Spiro, Sal here. Most people don't know this, but tire manufacturers build tires in "batches" at certian times during the year. The only reason this ever shows, is if the tire becomes backordered, and then everyone wonders where the heck they are. As for the tube thing, don't sweat it. Tubes are a pain in the butt, and unless you have a sub 10 second car, you really don't need them. I've always run slicks tubeless, will no problems whatsoever. As long as your using a rim that is made for a tubeless type tire (which almost all of them are), you won't loose any air.

Hi.
I'm posting a photo of the slick that HighRisk used on his Lightning. If you study the photo you will see that the tire is screwed to the wheel and if you look at it very close you will see that he is in fact using an inner tube. If you go this route I would do the same (screws & inner tube). Goodluck.

Thumbs up

CA,
If you haven`t bought a set yet, It might take some time to track down a pair. Summit is expecting them in 3 weeks. I would call around like I did. Good Luck

Sal,
I never knew that tires were produced in batches, would make sence.I to have run slicks without tubes, and never really had a problem. But over time they lost air pressure.

Babolt,
I managed to track down a pair of tubes locally, but won`t have them till next Wednesday . Oh well, I think I`ll run the slicks without tubes the first time out. That is if they get here as scheduled tomorrow morning. Come 3 o`clock I`m outta here headed to the track with or without them. Those are the same wheels that I`m using at the track. Any idea what has happened to HIGHRISK ?

2000Silverbulletonorder,
I do have a set of Drag Radials, If you do a search back I was the first to try them out. Guess you never noticed them in my sig.I am pleased with them but I want more grip

I did notice, slick are not going to get you that much more, consider the limited power you are actually makeing. If you heat them up drag radials should work great, hell they have enough grip to nose up 800+hp mustangs.
Something wrong if they aren't do the job.
If you gain even a .1 back to back I would be amazed...

Those 800 horse stangs that you are reffering to are running a 335 50 15 Drag radial. Big difference for what I have.I`m sorry if you think that I won`t have any gain. I have a 9 sec stang that has alot better grip with a true slick than a drag T/A. Guess to each his own...............

I think I'm going with the 255/50/16" DR on the stock spare tire wheels...or maybe 26/10.50/16" MT ET streets... decisions decisions...

Good luck with the slicks and let us know your performance with them. In regards to HighRisk I'm sure we will see him once the drag race season starts here (4/1/00). In a conversation on Wednesday a fellow told me that the best that he ever saw HighRisk run was a 12.01 on giggle juice (damn good). I look forward to seeing him run this next season.

Thanks Babolt,I hope the tires make it here by 2 tomorrow, otherwise I`ll use the Drag T/A`s one last time. 12.01 WOW,what a rush that must be in such a big truck HIGHRISK must be loving it. I had a friend call me from Jersey a few days ago and told me that there was a 99 L(black)running 11.50`s at Oldbridge Township Raceway Park in Englishtown N.J.He was also running a Mickey Thompson Drag E.T. I`m sure he was also running nitrous. I`ll keep you posted

Question

I am waiting for my MT: 10" wide, 16" rim ET drags.

At the track I was told by the tech guy that I would need a driveshaft safety loop on any vehicle running slicks.

What have you guys done ?

According to the NHRA rulebook you need a loop anytime your running slicks. I guess it all depends on how "picky" the tech guy is at the strip. Out of the 4 dragstrips in my area only one would not let you run without a loop when using slicks....the other 3 wouldn't care... Good luck. Jeff
