warranty question about chips.help
just talked to ford where my lightning is being worked on. this is about the truck bucking or engine miss. 1st) they tried mass air flow sensor, did not work. 2nd) they said it was bad plugs put new ones on, and no help still did it. 3rd) precision cam sensor on today, again no help. 4th) tomorrow new computer (oh no).
my question is if they find out i had a chip (no it is not in it) will it void my warranty? how would they find out and if they do what will happen? anyone have experience with this or works as ford tech? i know if they take it apart then they could probably see the coating been removed but why would they look? any in put would be appreciated, thanks. can that void my warranty?

"What SuperChip?
Repeat after me, "What Superchip"?
Besides, because of the MM Act, they'd have to prove that the chip actually did damage, if it did(which I really doubt).

Hey Rusty, Sal here. Being a Ford tech myself, let me give you my opinion....
If you cleared the PCMs memory by disconnecting the battery before bringing it in, they should not receive the P0605 code that indicates an aftermarket chip, or bad PCM. If they replace the PCM, I seriously doubt they will open the PCM up because there is just no reason to. You should be aware that there is a Ford Special Service Message that specifically directs the tech to check for an "aftermarket" device in the case they get the P0605 code, or suspect one may be installed. But whether you having a chip affects if the repair will be covered, is based on what actually is causing the problem. If you have a faulty sensor, that can't be caused by having a chip (all the chip does is overwrite the PCMs memory), so then I would say no, the chip is not at fault. However, if you had burned a valve because the truck ran too lean, well that's directly related to the chip. Let me also clarify the term "Void my warrenty". It is next to impossible to actually have your warrenty "voided". But Ford can reject to pay the claim on that particular repair. So let's say for example, you bring your truck in for this miss. The dealership finds that the PCM is bad, and they verify that there was an aftermarket chip installed, by the missing grease and nice shiny contacts on the PCM plug. They cannot "void" your warrenty. But they can refuse to warrenty that repair. Even if you pull your truck out of the shop, they still have to close the repair order. So they will write on the repair order that an aftermarket device was found and caused the PCM to go bad. This repair order then gets uploaded to Ford. Now, if you bring your truck to another dealer, they will run OASIS (Ford's on-line tech service) like normal, and see that you had it at the other dealer and that the PCM went bad because they found an aftermarket device. See how it works??
What it really comes down to, is the service manager. Most guys really couldn't care less if you had a chip on there. They will still get paid for the claim if they don't mention it. It's when the customer starts busting chops that dealers will tell you to get lost and put that info onto OASIS. I hope this clears up a lot of dealer/warrenty questions for everyone

Yes, Superchips is very similar to Chips Ahoy and Crow. Chips Ahoy are consumed by some, crow is eaten by some, and Superchips rather than being eaten, eat things like Dodge R/T's and Stangs. Clear now?
