Question Rearview Mirror

Has anyone tried replacing the rearview mirror? I would like one that was bigger...don't necessarily need one with compass/temp. The current one is pretty lame. Bill, did you find any replacement options?

Hey Bo: Long time no hear.

I am going to order an ARE lid and probably a bed rug type liner.

At the same time I am going to decide whether to order the Lariat mirrors (the ones with the directional signals) or opt for something fancier like you mentioned.

I have to drive to Texas A&M College in mid Oct. to attend an award ceremony for my Dad, and I will be getting these things taken care of in the next week or two. I'll let you know what I decide on the mirror.

Bill

The rearview mirrors do suck. Why are they so little. We have this big truck that we spent all this money for and they cant even put in a half way descent rearview mirror in it. I think they also should have put the sideveiw mirrors with the turn signals in them...

Hey Bill,FYI, I just got a new Lariat and the signals are not in the glass, they've put them on the outside of the of the mirror housing.
Now when you turn on your signals, you can't see none of the signal light blinking, I like it....

I think the reason we have the small rearview mirror and no turn signals in the sideview mirrors is that '99.5 Lightnings were built on the XL trim cab. Someone here said that in 2000 they may switch to the XLT or Lariat trim cab which also gives the overhead console.

My wife bought me a larger rearview that has a compass built in from Ford. I don’t know if I kept the box to find the part number. She paid ~$135. I’ve seen similar units advertised in the auto rags, some with outside temperature readouts, too. Prince out of Muskegon, MI makes a lot of this interior trim stuff.

I dont know how many of you run your trucks on the track (not the dragstrip) but I find that even the stock rearview mirror is too large. Coming around a sweeper, its always in my way and I have to look around it. Do the aftermarket mirrors mount higher up on the windshield?
Also, getting convex mirrors for the side mirrors helps a lot.
