Lightning Insurance
Well, when I added mine to my policy, it was cheaper than the Escort ZX2 it replaced! I questioned my agent about it, and they said that the VIN is what determines the rates and that ~$650/yr is what my rate was (which, IMHO is great considering I'm 23 and single). This is for big $ coverage (tho my deductibles are $1000, mainly due to the mustang).

My insurance dropped $8 every 6 mos. going from a '98 F150 Supercab 4x4 (about the same price range) to the Lightning. Of course I haven't calculated in the 78 in a 65 the Ohio taxman just gave me
. Wish Ohio would find another way to raise revenue besides gouging foreign (VA) travelers. Two speeding tickets in 14 years...both you know where. Quite a scam.

I was quoted $210 every 6-months from USAA. The agent I talked to only wanted to know if it was two/four wheel drive and if it had a V8. Of course he caveated his quote with "The VIN will determine the actual amount".
I explained to him that the Lightning was not a standard F-150. He looked but could not find a separate listing for it (probably too new). I'm hoping that the quote is accurate but I have my doubts.

State Farm quoted my insurance as that of a standard F-150 V-8 as well. I was very specific and even took the truck over to thier offices for inspection and they still qutoed the same. If they decide to change it later, I guess that's thier worry, after all, I already paid for the year and I don't think they can jack it up after I've already paid the premium, can they?

Hello, fellow sheared sheep...
Funny this topic came up today. Some of you have already heard about the wrecked red 99 Lightning. Farmers totaled it after some discussion. I was surprised really that I came out like I did. I picked up another and I called My agent before I bought it. I asked specifically whether my rate would increase. No..oh! Not really,an insignificant amout due to the fact that your son will have 2 points due to the wreck, points which shouldn't be added. Anyhow I recieved My bill today. Almost $2000.00 dollars a year. The last policy was $800.00 a year. They wrote it up as a pleasure vehicle.
When I bought the first 99 they asked me to drive it down so they could take a look at it. I informed them it was a lightning as was the 93 they also insured for me. They even took pictures. Farmers treated it as an F-150,nothing special in their eyes. My 93 Lightning cost around $60.00 a month for full coverage with a $500.00 deductable.
I insure...(currently,this may change ASAP)My home,a 1995 Taurus SHO and two 1988 Merkur xr4ti's with these guys. All of which are fairly performance oriented. My agent denied telling me the truck insurance wouldn't increase like this. I recall he did.
words...is just words..I guess. Anyhow This not so small increase is after I dropped coverage on My 93 Lightning which was part of the deal for the new 99, as I had wanted to sell it.So insuring one less vehicle ends up costing Me about $500.00 more. A consideration I would have taken into account when I bought the new 99.
I have a budget. But you and I know insurance companies don't understand these nuances. Be forewarned....I was adamant about both of these trucks being much more than just your run of the mill F-150. They assured me that they quoted me the correct rates time and time again. Funny how an accident gets their attention. I'm frustrated...almost infuriated with the lacidaisical way these agents do business.Granted they did total the red 99 and pay off well. Maybe I need to reflect a bit more on the positive...

I added my Lightning for $275 every 6-months here in NC. That includes multi-car and home discounts, etc. I made sure they knew it was a Lightning but they said it didn't matter.

I'm paying 300.00 every 6 months thru Geico,it shows up as a Ford F150 SVT Lighting. It was quoted as being about 260.00 every 6 months but when they ran the VIN # it came back as an SVT Lighting so they are now charging me a whopping $7.00 more a month. I have no driving record, YET!!

noticed mine is listed as an "xl" model by state farm, and is the cheapest on my policy at 60.00mo for mega $ coverage, and i live in a very high insurance state (louisiana), i sure hope i'm covered for an "xl lightning" if something happens to it. Twisted99 how was yours listed?, i don't want to call attention to it if i don't have to.
Man oh man......after reading the posts here was I ever surprised. I think Bill's at $1600 per year, made me almost fall off the chair. I do understand that rates vary from state to state, but would never have figured this much.......for the record $640 per year on the 99 Lightning. Thats with having my primary residence and a total of seven insured. Allstate Insurance is the carrier. However total for one year with two male drivers (17yr & 19yr) myself and wife with four p/u's, one rice burner (yech!!) and two Vettes is $6200. All in the great state of Georgia!!!....later....Tybee
Hello Guys
Now I am kinda irritated reading the posts above. This of course has nothing to do with you guys but I have insurance with Geico and I live in Enfield CT. My insurrance every 6 months with basic coverage and 1,000 deductible is $1,969 every 6 months I am a hard working 21 year old kid and I barely have enough money to even pay rent and own my truck. Is there something im missing here? Why is my insurrance Almost $4,000 dollars a year for a truck? They list my truck as a standard
F-150 with the V8 yet im paying out my *** like it's a god damn Ferrari. Now don't get me wrong my driving record is not spotless i have had 3 speeding tickets over the last 5 years all were minimal about 10 mph over the speed limit and $50 dollar tickets. I still feel a bit uneasy maybe someone here could enlighten me or perhaps point me in the direction of a cheaper insurance company?
Any help is appreciated besides were all a family with our Lightnings thanks again,

I'm paying $293 every 6 months through AIG, here in Michigan (3 vehicles-discount). All they asked for was the VIN, 4x2 or 4x4, and was it a v8. I figured it was in MY best interest to just tell them what they asked for.
