Question to people, I was in a off road accident and broke my steering. Steering wheel just turns in circles, I need advice in finding out if my steering is broke in the steering box or if my steering shaft has something wrong with it. I can spin the shaft and steering wheel from the steering qear box in a complete circle.

 

If the shaft is connected to the box without any breaks at the universals then it would be the box. If you have someone turn the steering wheel and inspect the shaft while it's turning, you can verify that it is intact all the way to the box.

I blew one up in an old Bronco once and you could spin the steering wheel like a kiddie ride. Didn't have any external signs on the box either, just busted up inside.
