Accelerator/throttle Cable Replacement

I've gotten to the point where my truck won't hardly get out of its own way. I can stand on the pedal and it won't even kick down a gear. I have to assume that the cable has stretched out. I know the plastic around the cable is all broken and the plastic piece where it attaches to the throttle is cracked but I have no idea if that has any affect on the cable movement. I want to replace it vice making temp fixes. The problem I see is the variance in cable lengths from 43 to 44 inches. Does anyone have experience with this? I have a 95 5.0 extended cab.

Thanks!

RockAuto shows one for extended cabs but what should it matter how long the cab is? The distance from the peddle to the engine should be the same regardless how long the cab sticks out behind me.

ATP Part # Y617 {#F1TZ9A758K}
Cable Length 44.25 inches; Extended Cab Pickup

ATP Part # Y1183
Cable Length 43.25 inches

And for some reason the longer cable is half the price! Very confused.

I took out the old cable and took it to O'Reilly Auto Parts to get another one. They had two and of course the more expensive one most closely matched my old one. Turns out the cable was not stretched. The plastic was all cracked and didn't keep the portion of the cable running from through the mounting plate from bending. The new cable went right in and all is well. Make sure the mounting plate on top of the motor is flat. Mine was bent slightly upward which is what I think put stress on the cable and may have caused the plastic to break.

Fastest way to check is to pull the intake tubes from the throttle body, and have someone hold wide open throttle while you watch the butterflys. If you then can manually twist more and make 'em move, you need a new cable.

Shhh, don't be sayin' that. Then the bosses know you can do things, and make ya work 12s plus holdovers and no days off.
