what controlls tranny shifting on a 94?

94 f150 5.8 auto,what controlls the tranny shifting?the reason I ask is cause the tranny dont down shift on it own and it seems to up shift quick on its own.

The E4OD transmission is controlled by the Powertrain Control Module i.e. "the computer."
The principal (but not the only) inputs it reads for control are: engine RPM, throttle position, vehicle speed and transmission range.

The stock program for the E4OD tends to not call for part-throttle downshifts. Unless the Throttle Position Sensor reads at or near WOT (wide open throttle) the tranny will usually remain in 3rd or 4th
