The truck will start 20 times in a row over 2 weeks without problem, cold or hot. Then one morning it will not start. It will crank fast, but not even try to start. It has fuel in the carb, I can smell it when I take the air cleaner lid off.

The next morning it will start on the first crank. And will be fine for a few more weeks, then again, one day...first start of the day, it will crank but not start. Next day it will start on the first crank.

It never stalls once running, and always seems to start up again when hot. It only does this with a cold engine and only every once in a while.

Definitely electrical/ignition related.

It's driving me nuts.

Get a Haynes manual & a cheap digital multimeter & test the ignition system by the procedure in Ch.5 . Try to do it when the truck WON'T start.
