have 4x4 hi, but no low?

I took a ride on the beach today and decided before I ventured out to engage the 4x4. I turned the switch and the hi range lite came on and then I switched it to low range and nothing.
After leaving the beach I got to the garage where it was quiet and no BIKINI'S so I could focus and I can hear the hi range engage and disengage but the low range still does nothing.

Anyone got any idea's?

Did you put the tranny in neutral before you went to 4 low ?..not sure what year of truck you have, or how familiar you are with 4 wheel drive..just throwing out an idea.

You must be in neutral with your foot on the brake to engage 4lo. Do your brake lights work?

Thanks, I bought this truck used and it had no manual. On my 06 you could shift on the fly so I was unsure. The neutral on the tranny did it. Works fine now, thanks a lot.

You can download an owners manual at www.motorcraftservice.com. If your 06 was a Ford, it to would have shifted the same way. If it didn't, it had a problem.

EVERY Ford vehicle is the same way with an electronic transfer case. You could do a lot of damage shifting into low range while on the fly.... not to mention you could knock a few teeth out on the steering wheel by doing this.
