Axle Code

I have a 2001 F150 4x4 5.4. My axle code says 27. According to the decoding I've found, that code is for an F250 and it's a 3.31 non L/S Does that apply for my F150? It sure seems to have a lot of snap from a dead start to have that high of rear end. Havn't tried it yet but I'm sure I could smoke the tires from the gate. Or at least one of them

Yes, 3.31's were available in the F-150 in 2001.

Yeah, I've got an '02 4x4 with the 5.4 and the 27 code. They are 3.31's and non-LS.

OK next question, I'm running 33" tires and new to this truck so I'm getting ready for boating season. I've got a 21' Ski Centurion. Will these higher gears be a problem. Please say no as I traded in my Sport Trac for this truck just for the reason of pulling my boat better...............ok, not really............but that's what I told my wife

It's gonna be pretty rough - you should really be running 4.10's. Don't even think about using overdrive when you tow.

Who's the best price on gears? Should I think about L/S in the rear. My last full size truck was a 78 F250 w/ 460ci, 4x4, 4spd, 4.10's and Detroit locker in the rear. Great for the truck pulls but hell on gas stations. I really didn't want to repeat that with this truck. Heck, I'm only getting aroun 300 miles to a tank of gas now
