This may be misplaced, or, "out of element", but I used to have a Nissan 240sx with one of these open element filters, sounded really good, noticed a bit of better throttle response. Then, I cut a hole under where the filter was, and installed a 90 degree bend piece of PVC, just to route some fresh air to the filter, don't know if it made any HP diff, but it made me feel better about the air coming in because I knew I always had a fresh air supply coming into my engine. Just a thought...

I had forgotten all about this thread. LOL Blast from the past. I always wondered if that contraption collapsed under hard acceleration.
