Engine Studders...
the other day i drove through a flood and my engine started studdering for a few days and tonight the check engine light came on for about an hour and went off but its still studdering...what could cause it and what can i do...
my truck did the same thing when i washed the engine. most likely 1 of your spark plugs has gotten wet and the truck is not running on all cylinders. if its bad you will have to get a new coil too.

Some ignition component got wet, most likely between the plug and COP.
Stuttering is likely to be a mis-fire on one or more cylinders.
Water could have gotten into the gas. Water and engines really don't get along, and even a relatively small amount of water can wreak havoc with misfires. Get a bottle of K-100 and dump it into the gas. Failing that, or if you can't find any, dump a few ounces of isopropyl(rubbing) alcohol into the tank which will absorb water in the fuel system.

It's still missing ? Cylinder one is the easiest to work on - your lucky there -(first COP on passenger side).
Check the spark plug chamber - make sure it isn't full of water.. Pull the COP , pull the boot off the COP dry it out and coat it with dielectric grease and re-install.
Have you had a blinking light at all.
You might get lucky just cleaning it , but usually once water has come in contact - there spent and you need a new one.
You can spend $50 @ auto zone on one or there $12 over the internet if you can wait 3 days or so for it..
Heres the internet link for COPs - DG 508's is what your after - Go directly to the Global Auto store for buying just one..

Yeah , for $20, just replacing it would be your best bet, with it being COP #1 - it's a 10 minute job. Important - You need a tube of Dielectric grease for proper installation.
Disconnect your battery, disconnect the electrical connector from the COP, then remove the COP bolt with a 7mm socket.
Pull the COP off the plug in a twisting motion.
Make sure the plug chamber is dry and free of water , grease up the new COP boot (the entire inside of the boot and don't worry if you get some of the grease on the spring when you reinstall the boot ). Then grease the outside seam of the boot at the top.
Install the new COP in place (do not put to much torque on the COP bolt - it rides on a bushing and the COP is suppose to be able to move around a little), Grease between the boot and the spark plug chamber sealing it off.
Reconnect the elec. connector , then the battery (always connect the positive first when hooking the battery back up) and fire her up.
COP #1 is the first COP passenger side behind injector #1 towards the front of the motor -

I've got the same problem but no check engine light...
Friday I added water to my windshield washer and for some freak reason I decided to wash the dust off the engine without it running. Don't ask me why.. I never do that. But this time I guess I just felt like screwing something up. LOL
Anyway, mine is doing the same dead miss, studdering, missing deal, but I have NOT had the check engine light to come on. What should I do to find out where my problem is? I've got a 300 mile trip pulling a loaded trailer in two days and this isn;'t going to cut it. LOL Mine is a 2001 f150 v8 2wd.
Thanks...
Also, what is a COP? LOL I think I know where it is but don't know what exactly it is.
I can chop tops and rebuild 40 year old engines with my eyes closed, but i'm lost when it comes to working on these new ones.
