Flushing engine?

2000 Expediton 4wd, 5.4l, 50k miles

Just bought this truck a month ago. Is it a good or bad idea to "flush" the engine out with additives to get all of the accumulated deposits/sludge out. Or, would a few short oil/filter change intervals clean out a lot of the deposits on their own?

The truck is super clean / straight, good fuel econ and runs out good and hard. All the basic indications of a adequately maintained truck are there but when I changed the oil/filter it got dark really fast. I guess you can truly never know how it was cared for unless you personally know the prior owner.

do a tune up and then change oil again and see if the deposit don't return as quickly...could be blow by of unburned fuel...oil smell like gas?
