Buying a used programmer (Edge)?

Found an Edge Evo 15050 with dash pod for cheap on craigslist. Is there anything I need to check before purchasing it?

Yes make sure the seller set his truck back to stock before you buy it.....edge charges 75-80 fee to unlock/ reset the unit....

Also to let you know that there is a known cable issue with these for the 97-03+04h f150 trucks....if the cable fails while reprogramming it can leave you stranded and needing a tow to the dealership to get reflashed

Is that the correct model number for your truck year? Just making sure.

does the edge really live up to it's claims of power and mpg?

Edge is nice to have, but not like what results you would get with a similar product on a diesel for say.

That's the problem.....
You can't tell if the cable is going to fail or not....
PHP decided to quit upgrading and selling the edge evolution/Gryphon for the 97-03+04h & the diesels that they used them on because of the cable failures....PHP was not able to pinpoint a certain lot number either....it was happening here and there but not to all of them...PHP was spending at least 4-6 hours a week recovery vehicles in where the cable failed....its not the cable itself that fails its a communications chip in the end of the plug connector that fizzles out....and of course when that fails during a programming session.....well you can surmise the rest of the story....

Of course the CS and CTS are the replacements with a different cable for these trucks....

would you be able to tell if you put it in and tried to monitor the perameters and it stopped working (i havent used mine yet) or something like that i really only got mine to edit speedo for tires and gears and does this happen often and could i just go and buy a new cable and do return to stock (if it gets that far)

Like I stated before the cable/chip usually fails during a programming session.
Or jump starting or changing the battery....
Proper proceedure is to unplug the cable from the obdll port when doing anything with the electrical charging system on the truck.

To edit your tire size for the speedometer correction and for the gear sizes you'll need to program your truck and use the custom options menu along with a programming level other than stock.

It's like using your truck to play Russian Roulette and the cable/chip is the gun.....

It may happen.
Or
It may NOT happen.

A new cable is only available from Edge.

I'm just giving you fair warning that's all
So now consider yourself warned....
