bed covers and MPG

Hello all,

I am thinking about getting a bed cover for my truck. And I'm looking for some real world opinions on the above subject.

Does the addition of a bed cover really make any difference to the trucks fuel economy?

Most of the resellers of covers claim it, but I would rather rely on real world information.

Thanks,
David

I would have to say I have seen some improvement in MPG with mine. How much, not a whole lot. I would say the two big things about Tcovers are you keep things dry in the back and when you get side winds your truck will seem more stable. Yes you should see better MPG. Is it worth the cost of the cover for that alone, no. But over all I’m happy with mine and it’s the 3rd one on my 3rd truck.

Thanks for the couple of replies.

I just got back from my local truck toy store and ordered an Extang Platinum cover. It'll be in and on tomorrow.

Noticeable improvement here....

Before I installed my Retrax I was lucky to get 15 or 16 MPG on long road trips. Since then, I've seen my mileage improve to almost 18 MPG.

Unfortunately, most of my driving is in the city, so I definitely don't see any benefit in those conditions.

(I have the 5.4 liter engine, by the way).
