Inspection cover left off when new engine installed
I've had my new engine (5.4 l) in since Monday, I just discovered that they left off the transmission inspection cover. I've been diving it for 6 days without the cover, is this bad? Does this mean that contamination of the tranmission fluid has occurred? If that's happened, what are the chances that damage to the transmission has occurred? See my postings under engines, warning for 5.4 l buyers for the rest of my sad story.
your fluid will not be contaiminated if what u are talking about is the plate that goes between the transmission and the engine, this is used to keep dirt and etc from enterning the bellhousing and the ring gear , etc, bad new is these are a complete one piece plates and the trans will have to come out to have it reinstalled, by the way i would get it put back in.
oh sorry i had a bit of a brain freeze, if it is just the inspection cover get it put back in and aslong as you weren't mudding her there should not be any problem caused by it, also check to make sure that the seperator plate between the engine and trans was put in, also check that the rubber engine to bellhousing cover plug was installed , opposites side that the starter is on but in the same location ( keeps dust and the elements out )
I had the same thing happen when my 5.4 was replaced earlier this year. Just noticed it a couple of weeks ago. I guess that's the only good thing about the lack of rain in Texas. Nothing to splash on the torque converter. I went back to the dealer and they just happened to have the plate lying around waiting for me to return and claim it. The service manager was real nice as they installed it for me quickly. They also did not reinstall the clips that keep the tranny cooler lines secure just behind the cooler.

Not much is going to happen if mud gets into the hole. Now if a rock got in there you would probably hear an awful noise for a while until it either got ground up or fell back out.
