I'm going to be picking up a shallow mount Pioneer for under the seat in a bit.

I've done a couple hours of research on wiring up the amp to factory HU. I'm no audio person, but I've had subs for awhile and know a slight difference between **** sound and good sound.

Anyways, from what I'm reading it's the best to get a converter, and splice the rear speaker wires from the door and turn it into RCA? Is it possible to splice the wires that go into factory amp and somehow adapt it into RCA?

While stumbling on that issue, I found out the factory sub is 50W + 50W at 2 ohms each.

That sub will run with 50~250 rms and handle 1000 max. I have a feeling this is a stupid idea, but do you think i can save the trouble of confusing AMP wiring with factory HU, and just use the factory amp, and bridge it to power the aftermarket sub at 100W 4 ohms?

 

I'd place my money on it not working. Good chance you'll burn the amp up or damage it. But hey that's grounds to get a real amp!

 

I figured, lol so I just got an amp... Now I gotta find out what the best way to go about this is.

This is what I don't get, people say line out converter this and that, but if factory amp is still classified as an amp, shouldn't one of the wires be +, the other one - and remote?

The only reason why I'm doing this in the first place is because my factory one blew, I don't wanna go too crazy, like playing with all the wires behind the dash...

There were people saying there is an adapter that can change the factory wires that go into amp into RCA, but no one at 2001 audio video/futureshop/best buy know... not even the dealership... where can I get this? When I type in Lariat RCA adapter, I don't get anything on ebay either...

When I used to run just 1 subwoofer I used the factory amp to get signal to my aftermarket amp. I cut the wires coming out of the factory amp (the black/white ones), there are 4 of them, and used them to give me the left/right signal for the Line Out Converter to RCA. Just stuffed the factory amp behind the sub box. Ghetto rig kinda, but it worked.

The factory sub is dual 4 ohm BTW.

 

Thanks for the input, I took another look at it today, and there's like 10 wires going into the factory amp, i don't even know which is what.

I guess going with the method u said (taking the wires that come OUT of the factory amp) simply things... but isn't that like amplifying twice? how did you calculate the wattages and stuff that way?

Also, if anyone knows which wires I can splice and dice out of the 10 wires to get an RCA input, that'd be the ultimate answer that i'm looking for.
