Ive got the cash to finally do the plug change but it's freakin amazing how each dealership in my area, South Jersey, charges different prices for the plugs.

Holman Ford wants $27 each
Miller Ford wants $18 each
Chapman Ford in philly wants $13.46 each

It just boggles the mind. To have them change the plugs they each quoted:

Holman Ford won't give an est, they charge per hour
Miller Ford wants $350 but does not include a plug breaking, that would be a labor hourly charge.
Chapman Ford in philly $305 but does not include a plug breaking, that would be a labor hourly charge.


Tools I would need "just in case" are:

Lisle Ford Broken Spark Plug Remover LIS 65600 $69.99
OTC Ford F-150 Spark Plug Socket $22.54
Plugs @ Chapman cost $115.22
PB Blaster: $10
My time: Priceless
Total: $217.75

I've seen where some pick it up at parts stores for about $10.

 

Rockauto.com sells the Motorcrafts for $7.71 each.

 

Their tagged as autolights, not mortorcraft although I understand based on this thread the same company makes both plugs but from my understanding using autolights are not the same as using the motorcraft.

Correct me if I'm wrong with proper data?

 

I also saw the Autolites. I'm referring to Motorcraft SP-462 (PZT1F) and SP-507 (PZT14F).

$7.37, sorry. The $7.71 is for Autolite HT1's and HT15's.

 

- It's confusing, - Well for the 97-03 double plats, the Autolite heat range is to far out from Ford spec. IF they all fire, they don't seen to last long. The 04 - 07 3 valve Autolite plugs have been in question for some time, I think it was glc that has heard of one failure in those models.

Regardless, after what I've been thru with Autolite, they can't be trusted. As of right now , to date, for the 3V I would have to go with Motorcraft. Motorcrafts ARE produced to Ford Spec, - Autolites ARE NOT. So if your making that investment, I would go with the fail-safe. Well I guess I can't use the word fail-safe for the 04's and up because even the new Motorcraft plugs COULD break, but I believe it's the best option right now.

 

I don't see any motorcraft. This is what I see:

Somtimes with Rock, you have to choose a different model with the 5four , - to get everything offered. - Same year and engine.

 

You will find the Motorcrafts in the 2006 listings. The difference between the 2 is heat range, I don't remember which is the recommended one now. I believe the one you want is the hotter of the 2, because it's less likely to carbon itself in.

 

glc is right. The Autolites look exactly the same as the Motorcraft. They are both obviously made on the same assembly line. You didn't think that these were made by hand, did you? They are made by the same machines, most likely with the exact same materials. The only difference is likely the name stamp at the end of the line.

You Ford dealer might try to give you guff if your F150 is still under warranty and you bring it in with Autolite plugs. It seems they are making more excuses than repairs lately.

It really sucks to be a customer at a dealer any more. My cert pre-owned F150 has "free" oil changes for the next 30,000 miles. I'm thinking of doing them myself rather than trust the dealer. Really sad...
