Kohler use's Champions in there engines. I have an industrial Kohler in in my Carpet cleaning maching. The original Champion wore out at 1500 hours I replaced it with an NGK the machine now has 4500 hours on it with those NGK's. Lasted twice as long.

 

I have an 04 SCrew. What is the part # on the Motorcraft plugs? Advance Auto Parts has them as SP421 and Summit has them as SP471.

Also the part # for the 05 is coming up as ACF-SP507 from Summit.

 

whats the engine vin?

Got the sp421's today. Now I just have to change them.

 

when i did my spark plugs at 50k, they fought hard all the way out... ireplaced them following the tsb to the letter and not a problem.. i used autolite ht-1... the motorcrafts are made by autolite

 

yes but the motorcrafts are built to ford specs where the autolites are not.

 

Well, sort of.

Major difference between the two. Motorcraft is the spec plug. Autolite is more-less the knockoff plugs for Ford vehicles as far as Platinum designs are concerned. I've heard you can run Autolite Coppers in the modulars, but with the platinum's, it's a roll of the dice. Sometimes they work for awhile, sometimes they don't work at all.

 

The 2 piece 3V Autolite plugs are fine. Those are essentially the same plugs as Motorcraft. It's the 2V plugs that are off spec.

Negative. To be technical, they are both made by Honeywell Consumer Products Group, who also makes Fram and Prestone products - and Bendix brakes.

 

I think Ford owns Motorcraft AGAIN. - Something went on , but I can't find info either way. Not yet. Can u lol.

And yea, - it's Champion that didn't make the cut for the 3 valve.

 

Seems to me Ford has always owned Motorcraft, but Ford doesn't make parts like that - plugs by Honeywell, filters by Purolator, etc.

 

They owned Autolite as well up until 1972 I think it was, some legal crap went down then to. Right now Honeywell isn't claiming ownership of Motorcaft.

Right. Motorcraft contracts out to Honeywell for plug manufacturing, just like they contract out to Purolator for filter manufacturing.

 

I think glc is right Brew, I don't think Ford has ever surrendered Motorcraft. Probably contract for a lot of the Motorcraft stuff to be built by someone else to their specs. That's definitely the way it is with most companies.

When you compare Motorcraft to Autolite plugs, their alike in comparison(on the outside ONLY), so it's pretty much a no brainer. I guess I'll stick with that, -just can't find the data to confirm.
Sort of like their coils, with the exception that they come from some big import /export company over seas. Others caught onto that , companies that benefit from volume and in-turn, us, the consumer,- benefit from cut retail. - That's just the half of it lol.

 

I think the reason the Autolites are working well in the 3V's is this - it's a very unique plug, and why would Honeywell manufacture them any differently for Autolite than Motorcraft? The 2V and V-6 plugs have a lot wider application spectrum.
