A couple of years ago I had someone detail my car and they waxed the black molding running along the length of the top of the bed. After a few days it really started to show. Now it is basically faded black/almost white in areas. I've heard there are products out on the market that will return this plastic back to the original black, or at least close to it. Does anybody have any recommendations?

 

There are those that have had good luck with Black Wow. I've not tried it. I got good results with Bondo Restore Black. have to redo them about every 3 months. A more permanent fix is paint them with Krylon Fusion. I did my cowl with that and it has done great.

I'd say Black Wow or paint. The BW needs to be reapplied every 3 months or so.

Back To Black is crap.

 

Don't use back to black. It sucks. Seems to work well if you apply a heavy coat with lots of pressure.. But wait till it rains and it'll all run off, drip down the side of your truck and leave ugly drip marks.

 

X2 for the Krylon Fusion. Worked great on my cowl. 1.5 years in the blazing FL sun and it still looks pretty good.

 

Does anybody have any pictures of something they have used krylon fusion on? Before and after would be great. My bed rails look like total crap. The guy used wax all over them. I think he thought you could wax plastic.

wouldn't the paint chip or crack when heavy objects are placed on them? my truck isn't a work truck, but i do haul the occasional load of lumber from lowes or HD.

 

Use the search feature and run searches on cowl painting and black fusion. There have been several posts with pics.

Krylon Fusion is specifially for painting plastic and will not chip. It bonds to the plastic.
